A Bridgerton-style getaway in Bletchley at Horwood House

I was not paid for content but my night at Horwood House was complimentary.

Every mum needs a night off once in a while… to sleep in her own bed uninterrupted by little voices at 6am wanting food, milk, a bath or Peppa Pig… which was why my invitation for a bloggers trip to Horwood House came at the exact right time. I hadn’t been on a group bloggers trip since my night on the Virgin Voyages cruise ship, pre-Pandemic so I was super excited to get back into the swing of things.

The invitation was to newly refurbished Horwood House, a grade II Manor House in Buckinghamshire near Bletchley and Milton Keynes. £6 million has been spend on the upgrading the hotel to the luxurious standard that it is now! I took the train from London Euston to Milton Keynes Central, relishing the half an hour journey of uninterrupted me time (lol) and from there it was a quick taxi ride to Horwood House. Entering the hotel I was immediately taken by the decor… lots of antique mirror, bronze and light wood like we’ve used in our own refurbishment!
After check in, I was directed to my room through the large maze-like hotel. My executive suite was super spacious and perfect for a tired mum looking for some me time!

I was greeted with a mini G & T and a welcome platter which was a lovely little touch and a great start to my staycation!

The lounge area is a really good size and the sofa can be changed into a bed for the kids plus there’s a large TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The window looks out on to the hotel’s perfectly manicured grounds making the perfect place to work or relax.
While the bed area is more compact, it has everything that you need including lots of storage in the wardrobe and a pastoral colour palette.

The bathroom is complete with snazzy tiles and a powerful shower which I enjoyed uninterrupted by little requests from a cheeky toddler!

Once I’d freshened up it was time to meet the rest of the gang which included my good friend Sima!

Horwood House is actually the birthplace of famous gardener, Percy Thrower, a fact reflected in the beauty of the gardens and the lily pond. We were lucky enough to have our afternoon tea set up right by the latter…

I mean how idyllic is this? And the weather was perfect! The afternoon tea was delicious and made even better by the fact that we were surrounded by beautiful pink blossoms!!
And here’s the Manor House itself giving all the Bridgerton vibes… but we only had a short time to admire it as we spa treatments to get to! I was particularly excited about getting a massage as I hadn’t had one since I was pregnant with Oscar!

Like the rest of the hotel, the H Spa is freshly refurbed and includes a gym, a pool, sauna and steam room as well as some beautiful spaces for relaxation.
I had a super relaxing massage using Caudalie products but there are plenty of other options such as nourishing facials, manicures and pedicures.

Floating on a relaxation cloud, I went to my room to get ready and back down to the Manor for a cocktail making class with the brilliantly named Justin Imbiber.
Sima and I paired up to shake, baby, shake our cocktails, we made three in total and though Justin doesn’t need to fear for his job (lol) we were pretty happy with our efforts.

Harry’s Bar and Kitchen is the main restaurant at the hotel, and it’s absolutely gorgeous, following the gardening theme that’s present through out the house with hanging plants.
We were lucky enough to be in a private dining room sampling a tasting menu from Harry’s Bar and Kitchen.

Whipped cod roe with exmoor caviar.

Coal roasted beetroot with maple walnut, rosary ash and black truffle.

Fennel and honey glazed duck with white turnip, puffed barley and duck sauce.

Amaretto and white chocolate ganache coffee and walnut cake.

After a really delicious dinner and lots of chat – particularly about the how the ‘metaverse’ is the new big thing – I headed up to my room for a really good, uninterrupted night’s sleep.
Breakfast is served in the hotel’s 1911 and after a delicious breakfast – prepared by someone else for once! – I hopped on the train back to my baby!
