Family photos! The very first thought that went through my mind after I scheduled our shoot was, of course, “what are we all going to wear?”

This was followed by, “I will need to buy us all new outfits.” It is so ingrained in me that these type of events require fresh, new clothes. Or at least, it was. Although this is the initial thought that goes through my mind, I’m snapping out of the habits of actually going out and buying the new items.
I am so please with how our family photos turned out and the only place I shopped for myself and the girls, was our own closets. The girls wore a mix of hand-me-downs and thrifted items, along with a couple pieces that were originally purchased new, but have had for quite a while now. I had all the perfect pieces already in my closet too. Soft pinks, ivory, denim blue, and greys quite quickly became the colour story. This gorgeous pink Summer dress of mine, got a Fall makeover with some easy layering, a wool hat, and camel coloured ankle boots.
My husband is wearing pants he had purchased fairly recently and a brand new sweater he purchased. This man makes the most of his closet and always has. He has a capsule style wardrobe and thinks its hilarious when I mention items I have worn 30+ times. He wears his clothes 300+ times until they actually wear out. He only buys what he needs and that’s usually to replace something he can no longer mend (yes, he mends) and is quite literally falling apart. He gets a pass on buying new because he is the king of SLOW fashion.
I am so pleased with how our photographer, Karly, captured our family. I am equally pleased that we didn’t invest in any new clothes. After all, the idea around family photos is to capture who we are. Nothing will make you feel more like yourself than layering on clothes you own and love while being surrounded by your tribe.
